So while it is conventionally popular to stress the superiority of European military technology, mainly fire power
(e.g., the gun in particular the Machine Gun) as the major determining factor, historical accuracy impels us to
take a closer examination. The gun does not account for the conquest of Egypt by Assyria or of Sudan by the
Arabs. It appears that in each successive instance of substantial African defeat, the abandonment of the
principles of African social order made the societies vulnerable to foreign conquest. That theme has been very
brilliantly dramatized by Ayi Kwei Armah’s Two Thousand Seasons (1973), in which the abandonment of
reciprocity and the toleration of crippled leaders are depicted as the conditions that caused the shame of Africa
and African People. The lust for power and greed by these crippled leaders at the expense of the African social
order was the port of entry for Arab and European alike. The toleration and indulgence of these crippled leaders
must also include the masses of African people within these societies. Thus, while the corruption of the
leadership was the major factor, the sympathy of the people was at least on the order of contributory negligence;
much as it is today.
The one flaw in the ancient worldview which may have persisted seems to be the inability of African wisdom to
account for the basic psychological nature (psychopathology) of The Eurasian. To return to Merikara, is it the
“place he is in” which is short of water (and) bare of wood that makes him nomadic and makes him violently
aggressive? The same question may be put to Diop. Does not history deny the possibility of really civilizing and
humanizing those who by nature are barbarian? (continued on Pp- 26)

When the foundation for the modern African liberation movement was being prepared at the beginning of the
triumph of Haiti over France, Britain, and Spain in August of 1791, Bookman Dutty, the architect of Haitian
independence, taught: The god of the white man inspires him to crime. But our God orders us to do good work.
Our God who is good to us orders us to revenge our wrongs. He will direct our arms and aid us. Throw away the
images of the white man’s god(s)... and listen to Liberty which speaks in all our hearts.
Bookman’s revolutionary principles were thus dedicated not only to military victory, but also to cultural
restoration i.e.

Pandora [Historical Importance of her Box - Greek Mythology]
Aeschylus put it:
To diverse gods, diverse goods he (God) gave (gifts)... but of miserable men, recked not at all, rather it was his wish
to wipe out man. (Aeschylus, p. 42)
Proof: [What forces exist to wipe-out mankind?] Certainly not an African GOD!
Hesiod reiterates that “Zeus will destroy this race of men.” The human condition willed by Zeus is miserable.
“Fathers... have no common bond with son, neighbor with neighbor... guest with host, nor friend with friend; brotherly-
love (is) gone. Men dishonor...  parents who grow old too quickly... men... destroy the towns of other men, the just...
(are) despised but men will praise the bad... might (is) right” (Hesiod, p. 64). Originally, mankind, though given hardly
anything with which to survive, was at least “apart from sorrow and from painful work, free from disease” (p. 61). All
of this changed when the god Prometheus, against the will of Zeus, used trickery in an attempt to improve man’s lot.
Prometheus asserted:
I took from man the expectancy of death... (and) conferred the gift of fire (so that man could) master many arts thereby.
(Aeschylus, p. 42)
As punishment, Zeus created woman, Pandora, who was given:
a face like an immortal goddess...
- the lovely figure of a virgin girl,
sly manners and the morals of a bitch... (Hesiod, p. 61).
Lies were “put in her breast” and she was given “persuasive worth and cunning ways.” So equipped, she became the
“ruin of mankind’ (p. 61). She opened up the box “and scattered pains and evils among men” (p. 62).
Mankind is thus doomed to misery because they “love this ruin in their hearts” (p. 61). Women, who are indispensable
to man’s enjoyment, can never be trusted. Hesiod warns. “Don’t let a woman ‘Jim’ her behind and Ratted, just a cheat’
s (p. 70). The theme of divine discord, which emphasizes the conflict between the male and female divinities, is
inherent in human life.

When we examine the place of Africa in western intellectual history, we discover two almost diametrically
opposed traditions. One I will call the ancient tradition and the other, the new orthodox tradition. The ancient
tradition can be traced to early Greek thinkers like Homer and Hesiod.
This tradition was reinforced throughout the Greco-Roman Era and it was basically unchallenged throughout
the Middle Ages and early modernity, holding sway until the end of the eighteenth century. The rise of the
modern tradition is symbolized by the Napoleonic invasion of Haiti, Egypt and North Africa in 1798.
The earlier tradition is based upon the belief that Greeks generally held what is now called Africa in high
regard and considered the African Empires of Egypt and Ethiopia as the oldest nations on earth. There was
no apparent disagreement with Herodotus’ assertion that both the Egyptians and Ethiopians were black
(Ethiopian meant “burnt skin) and included those who are now called Africans). There was also evidently
widespread agreement that there was cultural kinship between the Egyptians and Ethiopians. In fact,
Diodorus, during the Roman period, opinioned that the Egyptians were originally a colony of the Ethiopians.
Much of what you currently believe and practice albeit consciously or subconsciously determined was
inherited from ancient Greece and ancient Rome - later those distorted pagan ideas and belief systems
and many holidays were grafted onto the framework of early Christianity by pagan Rome. The Roman
Empire actually persecuted Christians who suffered horrible deaths in the arena games for more than
three hundred years

History is a time dimension. History
structures time. I frequently try to point
out that culture is not only about behavior,
dress and so forth, but that all cultures
have a time dimension related to them. I talk about this relative to the education of our children to indicate that
our children are often flunked and destroyed by the time structure of the schools they
attend. Who told us that classes only have to last 45 minutes?
“Oh, the White-folks teach theirs 45 minutes.” But that, apparently, is a time system that’s connected to and
works for them, that is in someway intimately connected to their history and experience.
When we look at ourselves, are we going to tell ourselves that our children are destroyed by the aftereffects of
our enslavement, Jim Crowism, miseducation, poor self-image, all the other things we moan and groan about and
yet we don’t make time in a curriculum for instructing them so as to remove these obstacles to learning? If not
then, we will destroy them. Therefore, our time system for teaching our children cannot be a duplicate of the
European time system. We must recognize there’s a time dimension related to our history and ourselves as a
people. In knowing our history we get to know our time dimension, we get to know how much time has to be
dedicated to various tasks if we are to achieve what we need to achieve. Forget about other people’s time. Who
gives a hoot about whether our children are reading ahead or behind White children? Who told us they had to read
the same thing, at the same time, at the same age? If they have a different history, a different experience, different
goals and different ways, then doesn’t it stand to reason that they may be achieving different milestones at
different times? But it’s the very fact that we try to impose the time system of another people upon our children
that creates the so-called deviations we complain about so much, and our children are destroyed in the process.
So when we let another people write history — and
history is not an arbitrary division of time — they define us
within that division of time. So we see European history talking about “World War I”, “World War II”, etc. That’s
not the only way to divide up time, in terms of wars. No! We have been at war with the European continuously
for the last 3,000+ years — a non-stop war. But when we internalize European divisions of time, it takes us away
from our own history and from understanding their adversarial relationship against us and other people of color,
this internalization takes us completely outside of ourselves. Therefore, history as mythology, even if it tells the
truth, by the very fact of its structuring of time can still be used as propaganda, to manipulate, and create
unrealities in our consciousness: that's falsification.
European history to a considerable degree, attempts to control consciousness by the way it is presented. We saw
a movie called The Birth of A Nation. Why not the “Death of a Nation?” Indigenous American (so-called Indian)
nations existed at the time. At the same time we speak of the “birth” of some nations, other nations were dying.
But we are focused on their so-called birth. Even more pernicious than this is the fact that many of our people
feel as if they do not come into existence and self-consciousness until they have been recognized by European
historians. So Columbus “discovers” America and
it’s almost as if the “Indian” comes into reality and into self- consciousness as the result of Columbus’ discovery.
Before that time they were nothing. Dead! And many of us still have that deep psychology; that we are “invisible”
people until White-folks recognize that we exist. It’s a heavy psychology that rules us today; we are not famous
until they make us famous; we are not anything until they make us something. Before that we are nothing.
History as propaganda, history as mythology, creates and brings into consciousness. History by Europeans is seen
as a validation of truth. It establishes authority. It’s a puzzling situation, as I’ve often pointed out to my students,
that we use as arbiters of truth those who have lied to us most. These are the kinds of contradictions that keep us
crazy, and they are widespread. Consequently, we can only feel it is truth when it comes out of a European
historical mouth — solely. Caucasians love to claim that Africans Religions and beliefs are pagan, polytheistic
and /or all the other lies they spread about Black people. In fact many believe the Caucasians are demonic devil
worshipers from hell - I think they are preoccupied with death, dying & horror like no other known culture... ...
